What we do with gas

Landlord gas safety certificates

Landlords must have every gas appliance and flue checked every twelve months by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We carry out the inspection, issue the certificate the same day, and give you a clear note of anything that needs attention rather than a list of jargon.

Appliance installation, servicing and repair

Boilers, cookers, hobs, gas fires and water heaters, installed, serviced and repaired. We test combustion, check the flue and ventilation and leave the appliance safe and working, or clearly labelled and made safe if it is not fit to use.

Gas pipework, meters and leak detection

New supplies, upsizing existing pipework for a larger appliance, moving meters, tightness testing and tracing the smell of gas to its source. If you ever smell gas, turn the supply off at the meter, open the windows, avoid switches and call the national gas emergency line on 0800 111 999 first.

Frequently asked questions

How often does a landlord gas safety check have to be done?

Every twelve months, on every gas appliance and flue in the property. You must give each existing tenant a copy of the record within 28 days of the check, and give any new tenant a copy before they move in. We send the certificate electronically the same day so the paperwork is never the thing holding you up.

What is the difference between a gas safety certificate and a service?

The safety check confirms the appliance is safe: soundness, combustion, flue performance and ventilation. A service is more thorough maintenance that keeps the appliance running efficiently and usually keeps the manufacturer warranty valid. Many landlords have both done in the same visit, which is the sensible approach.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Turn the gas off at the meter, open doors and windows, do not use switches, doorbells or naked flames, and ring the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999. Once the supply is made safe, call us and we will find the fault and put it right.

Can you install a gas cooker or hob?

Yes. Connecting a cooker or hob is gas work and must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We check the existing bayonet or connection, the pipework size and the ventilation, install the appliance and test it before we leave.

My appliance has been condemned or capped. What now?

An appliance is made safe when it is immediately dangerous or at risk, and you should not use it until it is repaired. We will explain exactly what was found, tell you honestly whether a repair is worth it, and quote for either the repair or a replacement.

Can you upsize the gas supply for a new boiler or extra appliances?

Yes. New appliances often need a larger supply than the existing pipework can deliver, and installing them without checking is a common and dangerous shortcut. We calculate the demand, test the working pressure and upgrade the pipework or meter connection where it is needed.

Are you on the Gas Safe Register?

Yes, and you are welcome to check us. Every engineer carries an ID card showing their registration number and the categories of work they are qualified for, and you are entitled to ask to see it on any job.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes, and a large part of our work is commercial. We hold the accreditations needed to design, install and certify commercial heating, hot water and gas plant, and we have completed projects in schools and churches as well as offices, restaurants, care homes, hospitals, apartment blocks and multi occupancy buildings. We are used to working in occupied buildings and will plan the work around term times, services and opening hours.
